Job description: The Office of Career Counseling and Placement (OCCaP) seeks a Placement Officer who will report to the Convener of OCCaP and an Institute appointed faculty committee. The work will involve responsibility for all aspects of student placements at IISc including Liaison with HR and technical heads of companies, research labs, institutions, universities, etc., in order to identify career opportunities for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers from IISc; Scheduling and organizing visits of companies for placement/internship related activities on campus; Attracting new companies to campus for this purpose; Round-the-year tracking of student graduation, and assistance in candidate-job matching; Guidance and preparation of students for employment/internships, including resume preparation, organizing/conducting soft-skills courses and mock interviews; and Any other related work assignments from time to time.
Job requirements: The individual should be energetic, proactive, and a good communicator; excellent written and oral communication skills in English; ability to effectively use modern computing, document preparation, data analysis, and networking applications and tools; strong analytical abilities, in order to analyse data as dealt with in science administration, provide visualization of the data, and draw inferences. Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience in organising national and international scientific meetings and in advising students at graduate and undergraduate level, will be distinct advantages. The Placement Officer is expected to work in consultation with a committee of professors in the Office of Career Counselling and Placement at IISc.
Age requirements and educational qualifications: Preferably an MBA with specialization in HR. At least three years prior experience in placement related activities in reputed engineering, management and/or science college/institute/univeristy. Candidates are therefore likely to be in the 25-45 years range. Qualifications and age can be relaxed for candidates who have demonstrated success in similar positions elsewhere.
Other Terms and Conditions: The position is full-time, temporary and contractual. The contract is for an initial period of 3 years and may be renewed for additional periods depending on IISc’s requirement. The contract can be terminated at any time with one month’s notice on either side. Since this is a contractual appointment, benefits available to permanent employees of the Institute will not be applicable.
